Capacity building
In May 2012, a Qualitative Research Training Workshop was facilitated at the Biomedical Research Training Institute (BRTI) in Harare, training and preparing local research assistants for the fieldwork. The workshop covered: i) qualitative research methods (in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, Photovoice, draw-and-write exercise, participant observation, field notes), ii) health and safety issues in the field, iii) research ethics, and iv) transcriptions, coding and data management.
Furthermore, students and research assistants who are usually engaged in the quantitative part of The Manicaland HIV prevention Project survey were invited to participate in the Qualitative Research Training Workshop as well as to parts of the qualitative data collection – in order to strengthen and broaden their insight into both quantitative and qualitative data collection.
