National level dissemination workshop
Date: 20th of February, 2014
Venue: Cresta Lodge, Harare.
This dissemination workshop (programme) was a co-hosted event between Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) and The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI). For the workshop we invited stakeholders linked to child welfare, health and education representing a wide range of organisations (see attendant list for details) in order to facilitate a platform for relevant stakeholders to bring forward their input to our research findings, and to debate the implications for schools to play a role in the protection and support of children affected by HIV.
Through exercises the workshop participants were encouraged to take their own institutions and experiences as a starting point, and discuss possibilities and implications for schools to play a role in the prevention and mitigation of HIV and AIDS. See full summary of input received at this workshop in the stakeholder report.
The workshop was attended by participants from a variety of international organisations and national government departments, including World Vision, Action Aid, National AIDS Council, Save the Children, Ministry of primary and secondary education, Ministry of Health, UNICEF, SafAIDS and the Biomedical Research and Training Institute.

“Impressive work-and much needed. I was absolutely thrilled to hear about such fantastic data. I haven't come across anything that focuses on schools in such a thoughtful manner- it's an incredible and ignored opportunity to intervene.” |
“Many thanks to BRTI for this morning's presentations, which were comprehensive and detailed. Congratulations to BRTI on a job well done in unpacking the roles schools can play in the support and protection of HIV affected children” |
